Seattle Center remembers departed with Dia de Muertos

Seattle Center Festál presents Dia de Muertos: A Mexican Celebration to Remember Our Departed, on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Seattle Center Armory.

The Day of the Dead festival celebrates the art and spirituality of Mexican culture. This year, Dia de Muertos features the celebration’s indigenous roots, “Rebirth in Ce Atl!.” The opening ceremony showcases Mexican dancers from Ce Atl Tonalli.

Explore and experience the culture’s roots through live performances, foods, face painting and exquisite rituals. Decorate sugar skulls (“calaveritas”), learn how to make paper flowers or participate in other workshops and hands-on activities, view community altars and a cemetery (“panteón”) and march in a musical procession honoring the lives of loved ones who have passed.

This event is open and free to the public.
